Similar to our existing efforts in Ethiopia, Kitegang is beginning an expansion into Somalia with our Tesfa partners exploring how best we can support the educational and financial needs of at-risk families in the Horn of Africa. By providing part-time work for under-employed parents associated with Tesfa's schools, we're eager to help subsidize education and in turn make a contribution to marginalized families and their kids growing up in one of the most challenging environments on earth.
Since early 2008, Kitegang and its partners have been on the ground in Puntland, Somalia, exploring the most constructive way to establish a primary school, and corresponding industry to help finance its operation. While we are at our roots a toy company, because of the logistical and political hurdles of operating in a failed state, Kitegang is also exploring manufacturing other wares more suited to the local environment. While this will presumably lead to only a small percentage of our project financing coming from kites, or even toys for that matter, we feel that our most important objective should remain helping children having more to smile about -- no matter how we get there. Consequently we look forward to working with Somalis on the ground and finding the most agreeable way to finance our increasing educational endeavors in the Horn of Africa.
