Because many children in the developing world lack adequate education to fully develop their true potential, Kitegang has been working with the Tesfa Foundation to test different models of partnering education and industry for the betterment of all involved. Our core approach in Ethiopia involves linking one of our kite manufacturing workshops with a primarily school, and consequently providing parents with work on-demand to finance their children's school fees, as well as a further revenue stream for the schools themselves through profit sharing. (And beyond the financial benefit for education, being associated with a school provides Kitegang an excellent pool of test pilots to help us evaluate all of our kites, as if they're not durable and enjoyable enough to satisfy the kids, we don't want to make them!)
Further experimentation is required to tease out the most efficient approach, but creating a true partnership with parents and children alike here has been a rare pleasure, that most importantly promises to both inspire and continue to provide for children in need.
